Dynamic Gentle Yoga™ Teacher Training Program –Curriculum

Module 1 – Accessibility

The Dynamic Gentle Yoga Teacher Training (DGYTT) begins with a module that focuses on the methods that make group classes accessible for as many people as possible.

Thursday Evening – Get Oriented and Acquainted 
Friday EveningEmbody the Practice 

Participate in a smooth and soothing practice of movements that evolve into modified postures in a class sequence called Dynamic Gentle Yoga Stretch. 

Saturday MorningEmbody the Practice / Learn the Secrets

Learn and practice the pelvic alignment that makes back extensions safe and satisfying in a class sequence Rudy calls Expand Your Range – Extend Your Spine.

Saturday AfternoonEmbody the Practice / Learn the Secrets

Learn and practice techniques to release and strengthen the backside muscles in a practice sequence Rudy calls Forward Bends – Strengthen, Lengthen and Release into Resilience.

SundaySkill Development
  • Learn the key methods of teaching accessible and empowering yoga: creating safety, setting a context, guiding a centering, instructing alignment for sitting, approaches to opening the lungs and creating resilience in the breathing muscles.
  • Identify the phases of a posture from beginning to end, learning how these phases employ a formula for guiding movement
    Explore the use of breath cues that shift this physical practice into a meditative experience.
  • Practice teaching in a supportive, affirming environment with your peers, one posture at a time, gradually adding new cues to your repertoire.

Module 2 – Energy

This module focuses on how to guide students to remain in a pose a bit longer to build and free prana – the life force energy – while maintaining safety, accessibility and empowerment.

Friday EveningEmbody the Practice 

Participate in a mild practice of Dynamic Gentle Yoga with a brief sustaining phase in several poses to begin to explore building prana.

Saturday MorningEmbody the Practice / Learn the Secrets

Participate in a class that offers a medium dose of prana-building by extending the sustaining phase a little bit longer in several poses.  Learn from Rudy about relevant methodology and philosophy, ask questions, share your experience. 

Saturday AfternoonEmbody the Practice / Learn the Secrets

Participate in a class that provides a strong dose of prana stimulation,  exploring the fullness of the sustaining phase, holding poses longer, adding advanced breath cues and then awareness cues to embrace the poses gracefully, with relaxed effort.  Learn from Rudy about relevant methodology and philosophy, ask questions, share your experience. 

SundaySkill Development
  • Take a close look at the methodology of the sustaining phase.
  • Identify the practices that help to integrate the prana which has been released and when and how to use these practices.
  • Learn the secrets of guiding a 10-minute meditation experience using a tried and true, but simple methodology.
  • Practice teaching in dyads with other teachers, one posture at a time, gradually adding new cues to your repertoire.

Module 3 – Empowerment

This module brings in the signature practice of Kripalu Yoga, Meditation-in-Motion. This is a practice of flowing yoga which progresses into spontaneous movement while bringing the mind into meditative noticing.

Participate in a particularly grounding practice exploring core engagement, how it’s practiced and how it’s guided.

Saturday MorningEmbody the Practice / Learn the Secrets

Participate in a practice in which we luxuriate in Slow Dynamic Gentle Accessible Vinyasa – flowing accessible movement.  Learn from Rudy about relevant methodology and philosophy, ask questions, share your experience. 

Saturday AfternoonEmbody the Practice / Learn the Secrets

Participate in a deep exploration of Meditation-in-Motion:  learn it’s  historical background, watch a demonstration, enjoy a group practice experience, followed by a full integration of deep relaxation, meditation, journaling, co-listening and group sharing.  Learn from Rudy about relevant methodology and philosophy, ask questions, share your experience. 

SundaySkill Development
  • Learn the teaching methods that work for guiding meditation-in-motion.
  • Practice the experience again with a teacher’s hat on watching the methods unfold.
  • Review and explore all aspects of teaching Meditation-in-Motion.
  • Practice teaching this life-changing experience – script provided.

Module 4 – Mastery

In this module we discover and explore alignment cues as well as approaches to stabilize and strengthen balancing poses. Also included is a primer on how to lead chair yoga.

Participate in a class that focuses on balancing and strengthening.

Saturday MorningEmbody the Practice / Learn the Secrets

Participate in mini-practices. Learning and discussion topics include:  (a) Accessible and empowering methods to guide balancing poses, (b) Progressions to enhance the benefits of balancing, (c) The art of creating smooth transitions, (d) More tools to enhance accessibility, empowerment and the meditative aspect of this practice.  Learn from Rudy about relevant methodology and philosophy, ask questions, share your experience. 

Saturday AfternoonEmbody the Practice / Learn the Secrets

Participate in mini-practices. Learning and discussion topics include:  (a) The methods and practice of Dynamic Gentle Chair Yoga, (b) How to create your own chair yoga sequences, (c) An experience of Dynamic Gentle Chair Yoga, introducing the principles of guiding chair yoga including offering the chair as an optional prop within a regular mat yoga class.

SundaySkill Development
  • Learn the art of designing gentle yoga sequences that encourage regular practice and repeat participation.
  • Discover how adding options to all your instruction builds your students’ safety, confidence and self-knowledge.
  • Discuss the use of themes for gentle yoga and get ideas from your peers.
  • Explore how to develop a gentle yoga class series.
  • Swap “smart ideas” for specific posture options to enhance accessibility.
  • Experience a gentle practice as you focus on the art of smooth transitions.
  • Integrate gems gathered and share thoughts for teaching into the future.
